This weekend I started insulating the walls with foam panels.

These are the new parts for the chimney system.

I cut the clearance hole in the roof them framed in supports for the chimney.

Next I installed the flashing, rain collar and rain cap. This was a little tricky on the metal roof.

Well I ordered almost all the WRONG parts. I'm returning them and have ordered new with the help of a technical sales person.

Started framing the interior. The dimensions of the room are approximately 6' X 10'.

Next step is to finish framing, then insulate the wall and install the chimney system.

I built a concrete block hearth to hold the fireplace insert. I'm not much of a mason but it works. I used a come-along attached to my truck with the other end attached to a rope through a pulley to lift the insert into the block enclosure. Then I bricked in the top.

For many years I have thought of building a Sauna. I grew up in Michigan's Upper Peninsula where many people of Finnish decent had a sauna in or near their homes. Sauna is basically a very hot room in which you dwell for a short period of time and sweat. Temperature in the room can be from 150F to 200F. It is claimed their can be health benefits from this activity but I'm not sure about that. From my experience, I can say that I feel very relaxed after sauna. After you have reached a nice temperature, rolling around in the snow half naked can be exhilarating.

I have an old concrete block out building and an unused cast iron fireplace insert. This is where I start.
